Cap Ferret is a little like a never-ending holiday. Here, everything is delicate and magical, sand and nature. The Lège Cap Ferret peninsula wasn’t always there. This expanse of sand has only been there for 2,000 years, extended as if to better protect Arcachon Bay. Here the sands are shifting. You won’t sink, but each year the bank moves, erodes on one side, builds on the other. Climb to the top of the lighthouse and you will appreciate this magnificent work of nature: the passes in the bay with their strong currents, the Bank of Arguin, carved out by the currents, the Dune du Pilat rising majestically out of the background. Excursion to Bird Island
A unique place that you will not see anywhere else. This island, covered at high tide, is home to huts on stilts. Before being submerged by storms until the end of the 19th century, the island was home to cows and horses. Since then, it has become a fishing ground, surrounded by oyster beds. You can get there by canoe or motorboat. Several companies at Cap Ferret will take you across.
Strolling on the sand
But Cap Ferret is really the perfect place to take a stroll with ice cream along the emblematic Bélisaire jetty, explore beautiful boutiques for a little shopping, visit the oyster farms and return with a basket of oysters. Of course, you’ll have to take a dip in the ocean after putting your towel down on one of the most beautiful beaches in Aquitaine.
