Your road trip in the Landes

Looking for adventure and freedom? Here’s an ideal 5-day itinerary for a road trip in the Landes region, following the Landes coast from north to south.

Day 1: Biscarrosse and its lakes

We’re starting this road trip in the Landes from the north. Biscarrosse is a good starting point, especially if you’re coming from Bordeaux. In Biscarrosse, enjoy the beach, especially the magnificent Plage du Vivier, and the nearby forest. Take time toexplore its lakes by boat. The lake at Biscarrosse, where Au Lac de Biscarrosse campsite is located, is perfectly laid out, with beaches for sunbathing and water sports to try out with the whole family.

Day 2: Mimizan

In Mimizan, take advantage of the beaches for a swim or a stroll with your feet in the sand. The immense Plage Remember and the wild Plage de L’Espécier are the most beautiful beaches in the area. For a bit of adventure, head for theEtang d’Aureilhan, which can be explored by canoe. You’ll find everything you need for a picnic on the beach at the Mimizan market, one of the most beautiful in the Landes.

Day 3: Huchet current

The Huchet current is one of the wonders of the Landes region. It links the Etang de Léon to the Atlantic Ocean to the north of Moliets-et-Maa over a distance of 9 km. It boasts a remarkable ecosystem and a wide variety of landscapes. The courant d’Huchet is part of a protected nature reserve that is home to numerous animal and plant species. The reserve can be explored on foot, freely or on a guided tour. The best way to explore the courant d’Huchet nature reserve is on a galupe, a traditional flat-bottomed boat. At the end of the day, spend some time on the courant d’Huchet beach or the Chênes Lièges beach at Moliets-et-Mâa.

Day 4: Soustons and Seignosse

Soustons’ exceptional natural beauty makes it well worth spending at least a day here. The town is close to the superb Lac de Soustons, a great place to try your hand at stand-up paddling. The area around Soustons is also dotted with footpaths and mountain bike trails. A little further south, on the Seignosse side, you’ll find 3 lakes: Etang d’Hardy, Etang Blanc and Etang Noir, including the Etang Noir national nature reserve, not to be missed on your Landes road trip.

Day 5: Hossegor, the surfing capital

We end this 5-day road trip in the Landes in the surfing capital. Hossegor boasts some of the region’s most interesting architecture, which you can explore on foot. In Hossegor, watch the surfers on the famous Plage Centrale, go shopping or take a few surfing lessons before finishing your trip.
